The circumstances

Our client ran a successful wholesale food deliver company and enjoyed weekly dancing lessons with his long-term partner. Whilst driving the company van, the engine began overheating and he was forced to pull over to the side of a busy dual carriageway. He opened the bonnet and immediately knew that he would require further assistance. He was standing at the front of the van on the phone to the AA when it was struck from behind by another vehicle using the road. The impact was such that he was thrown 5 metres along the road where he landed just off the carriageway.

He was immediately taken to the nearest intensive care unit where the extent of his spinal injuries was assessed. He had suffered partial damage to the spinal cord. Eleven days after the accident he was transferred to a specialist Spinal Injury Centre to undergo further specialist treatment.
